ADVANCED COMPOSITION
By James Connell and Donald Stephan. Building on the skills learned in Basic Composition, this curriculum unit provides an in-depth review of basic and advanced composition and sentence skills. Students are encouraged to work individually, with partners, and in small groups to refine their thinking skills and to review their respective compositions. The lessons are divided into four sections reviewing basic concepts, teaching thinking skills, developing more advanced composition skills, and providing practice in writing the advanced composition. Specific lessons include revising paragraphs, analogies, writing comparison and contrast compositions, and using transitional sentences. (The student edition incorporates all of the exercises into one convenient workbook.) Grades 7–12. Spiralbound. 8½" x 11". Center for Learning. 231 pages.
