ODYSSEY
A Simulated Journey Through the World of Classical Greek Mythology
Cooperative group unit
Introducing heroes, heroines, gods, and goddesses, this cooperative learning unit enables students to explore the mystical world of Greek mythology. Teams of three students work together to climb to the top of Mt. Olympus, reading myths and cooperatively analyzing two of the myths together. Students must overcome a final obstacle (a boulder on the mountain) in order to reach the summit and receive an “Olympic Achievement Award.” For example, the boulder may be writing a summary of one of the perils that Odysseus faced on his voyage home to Ithaca, or identifying the 12 labors of Heracles. The set includes 35 eight-page student guides and a detailed teacher’s guide. Time: 8–13 class hours. Grades 3–7. Illustrated. 8½” x 11″. Interact. 62 pages. 2009 revised edition.
