S.O.S.

After receiving a message in a bottle from a stranded family, student teams must investigate the ocean and its elements in order to rescue them. By reading background essays and conducting experiments, students learn about ocean currents and maps, flotsam, flora and fauna, temperature, salinity and density. Using their research skills, they investigate clues from the CSI unit about native flora and fauna, latitudes and landforms and record data in their Daily Discovery Logs. In culmination, the ocean academics use their knowledge to present a convincing argument to the Global Emergency Travel unit on where to send their rescue ships. Up to 15 hours of instruction. Grades 4–8. Interact.
