U.S. HISTORY READERS

Thought-provoking curriculum units stimulate informed discussions and higher-order thinking skills rather than focusing on recitation and rote learning. The units can supplement—or even replace—a traditional history textbook. Each unit consists of 8–11 "lesson-chapters" that provide brief (4–6 pages) student readings on important historical topics, coordinated activities, and detailed teacher instructions. A "For Further Consideration" section in each chapter requires advanced students to do more writing and to use their extra knowledge to enrich class discussion. Many lesson-chapters also lend themselves to debates and/or simulations. Graphic organizers and vocabulary lists help round out each unit.
