The Legacy of Brown v. Board
DVD, guide
Connect with a representative to create a custom curriculum for your district.
This insightful program combines voices of scholars (Julian Bond, Robert Carter, others) with historic images and archival film to document strategies that produced Brown, survey successes and failures in its implementation, and show how racism and economic injustice persist despite the Supreme Court's ruling on "separate but equal" schools.
The documentary concludes with students, teachers, and critics like Jonathan Kozol reporting on conditions in today’s classrooms and pleading for systemic change. Two discussion clips appear after the main program: students (11 minutes) and adults (19 minutes). Comes with a teacher’s guide containing post-viewing questions. Directed by Sharon K. Baker and narrated by Blair Underwood.
